Year 11 Parents and Carers who were able to come to our Post-16 Briefing on Monday will have received information booklets from Norfolk County Council promoting the options available to students. If you were unable to come, your copies will have been given to your child by his or her Form Tutor. Our new Careers website, thorpecareersportal.info, has been created to host relevant, up-to-date information to help parents and carers to support their children. On the website, we have included a summary of the messages that were shared during Monday evening’s briefing. Year 11 students also have access, via Google Classroom, to our Careers Newsfeed where we will be posting updates about learning opportunities, careers fairs, latest apprenticeship offers, and much more.
The school welcomed seven organisations to our mini Careers Fair with a view to promoting career opportunities. We are grateful to the Apprenticeships Norfolk team, Lovewell Blake, British Army and Royal Air Force, the NHS, Norfolk Police and UEA Ambassadors.
PSHEE lessons are focusing on the application process, with practical advice on finding courses, writing applications and preparing personal statements. Over the coming weeks and months, Miss Emmerson (Pathways Guidance Coordinator) and Mr Fish (PSHEE Curriculum Leader) will be running a series of talks from representatives of key employment sectors, and we will be inviting students to come along to discuss their interests, plans and ideas. These events will be announced to students via the School’s Daily Notices, the Careers Newsfeed and through PSHEE lessons.
From November, Mr Fish and Miss Emmerson will also run regular Apprenticeship Workshops on Thursdays after-school in N15, providing help with Letters of Application, CVs and Personal Statements for students who are planning to apply for Apprenticeships starting in July 2018.
Miss Emmerson is available in school to offer help and advice with students’ Post-16 plans. Appointments can be made online via http://thorpecareersportal.info/help-and-advice/ and parents and carers are welcome to accompany their children at these appointments. For email enquiries, Miss Emmerson can be contacted via firstname.lastname@example.org.
