Students Celebrate Success at Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form
On Friday 13 November 2015, over 200 students, parents and local dignitaries attended an awards ceremony to celebrate the success of students in Years 11, 12 and 13 (academic year 2014/2015).
Acknowledgement of the hard work and academic achievement of students was made by all departments in the form of a nomination for the recipient of a departmental award for excelling at both GCSE and A Level standards.
Endeavour Certificates were also awarded by the Head of each of the six Houses for recognition of work an individual has undertaken within the House to enrich the experience for other students.
The final awards of the evening were presented by the Principal, Ian Clayton, who announced the recipients of the Chair of Governors’ Award and the Richard Barrington Memorial Award. The latter of the two awards is particularly significant as not only is it awarded in the memory of Richard Barrington but also because it is the Sixth Form students themselves who vote for the student they feel has contributed most to the community.
This year the school was pleased to be able to welcome back three former students – Miss Jodie Allen, Mr Daniel Harvey and 2nd Lt Sam King who shared with the group how their career pathways have developed since leaving the school. They were interviewed by the Principal in a ‘chat-show’ style activity.
Light refreshments were enjoyed by all at the conclusion of the ceremony.
