Welcome to the Friends of Thorpe St Andrew School. Our association is made up of friendly, enthusiastic and hardworking parents and staff. We raise money for additional equipment and resources that are used in classrooms and by school clubs. We fundraise by providing social activities for parents, staff and students of the school community.
Students, Parents and Staff: Can you help us?
We are always happy to welcome new faces to the team. You can join us as a helper at events or join us at the planning stage by becoming a member of the Friends’ Committee. If you are interested in helping out, joining the committee or have a question for the Friends, we can be contacted by email: firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling the school on 01603 497711.

Whitlingham Outdoor Centre – Saturday 27 September 2014
A glorious late summer morning, clear views, calm water and swans, ducks and geese galore greeted the 25 Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form students who made their way to Whitlingham Broad for two hours’ of kayaking and canoeing. They were divided into two excited groups, before making their way out onto the still Broad. Shouts and laughter came wafting back across the water as they paddled out to do races, play ball games and generally enjoy the boats – including a water-borne swap at half-time so that both groups could try both activities. In all, a total of approximately £80 was raised as well as a great time had by one and all. If you missed out on this opportunity, watch out for the Daily Notices for the next activities the Friends are offering.
Paintball – Saturday 18 October 2014
Slightly misty but with a pleasant autumn warmth, Saturday 18 October looked set for a good day’s shooting! And so it proved. 40 students with 7 staff and helpers gathered at Skirmish to plunge into the forest in four teams and hunt one another down in the quest to win. Mud and paint mixed to good effect on faces and overalls, while between games stories of injuries were exchanged. A final battle between the Reds and the Blues finished the morning off and a happy group made its way home to a well-earned lunch. To top it all, everyone who took part has helped us raise around £130 to support our school.
FOTSAS will be offering a further Paintballing trip later in the school year, so keep your eyes peeled for information.
Christmas Fayre – Saturday 15 November 2014
A huge Thank You to all who attended our fourth successful Christmas Fayre! Bigger and better than ever, the Fayre was filled with happy faces and bulging gift bags. To all stallholders, customers, helpers and donors of prizes – it was a fantastic event thanks to you all!
We do not yet have the total raised, but in the meantime we would like to tell you that the proceeds will be helping to fund a brand new laser cutter for Design and Technology – £1,300; eight Baby Annies for First Aid in PSHEE – £800; non-fiction books and DVDs for the Learning Resource Centre – £600; and brand new sets of school football kits – £600!!
So Merry Christmas to one and all and thanks again for your support.
Saturday 4 July 2015
Alarm clock, excitement, blue sky, 6am: must be the annual Friends of Thorpe St Andrew School Thorpe Park trip! And so it was … 92 students, three Sixth Form helpers and five staff piled into two coaches and set off southward.
Once there, equipped with sun-cream aplenty, we battled our way through the queues to experience the thrills of rides such as Swarm, Stealth and Nemesis Inferno. Despite a later than planned arrival (the Royal Horticultural Show caused an explosion of Saturday M25 traffic), our day stretched from 11.30am to 6pm, when our tired, but happy group of sun-soaked folk gathered in the afternoon sun for group photos and to compare rides and purchases, before making our way back to the coach for the homeward journey.
Thankfully, getting back was an easy journey with no hold-ups and by 10.15pm we were back at school. Thanks to all who participated and helped! It was a very enjoyable day with the added bonus of raising much-needed funds to contribute to enriching school life for all.

Paintballing at Skirmish
A bright winter’s day; cold, fresh and shining with sunlight welcoming the high voices and excited shouts of 38 students and 7 staff ready to shoot on sight!
The usual organised and friendly welcome awaited us at the Plumstead Road Skirmish and our students were soon kitted up in fatigues and goggles that made everyone look like a cheerful Darth Vader. After the obligatory and thorough health and safety instructions, everyone trooped cheerfully through the goggle-check and out into the sunny forest where a series of loud cracks followed as all tested their guns.
Before long, the first game started and the forest floor was filled with creeping soldiers seeking out the other side to pick them off one by one. The Dead Box slowly filled with Reds until the end was announced and the Blues had taken the day. The next game started and all was reversed! Four games later all were tired, wet, thoroughly muddy and grinning from ear to ear through the spattered yellow paint.
Many are already planning their trip next year!
Other fundraising activities, which have been suggested by students, staff and parents, though yet to be confirmed, include:
Harry Potter Studios Tour Visit
Snow Tubing, Trowse
Laser Quest, in school
Quiz ‘n’ Chips Evening, in school
