A visit to the some of the works of Barcelona’s most famous architect – Antoni Gaudi – was a must for the recent school visit by Year 9 language students and their teachers. However, an unexpected opportunity to join in with local culture arose as students gathered round a ‘street’ piano outside Gaudi’s Casa Mila. In the bright Spanish sunshine, the students took turns to play – both individually and some as a duet, to the pleased surprise of passers-by and their own friends.
Classics and popular pieces rang out from the magnificent grand piano as those music lessons and practice paid off and smiles and applause rewarded each young performer. Educational visit leader and Head of Spanish, Georgina McDougall commented:
“School visits to other countries are so important, not just for using language skills but to help students to grow and develop in so many diverse ways. That’s why our Principal, Mr Ian Clayton, is so supportive of all our language department visits abroad.”
