Ian Arnold is a Physical Education and History graduate from the University of Liverpool. He has taught at Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form since 2002, having previously taught in inner city London and Wymondham schools. He was previously Head of PE and Assistant Director of Specialisms on the Leadership Team before becoming part time so he could spend more time with his two young children. He is looking forward to the challenges of serving as a Governor and helping play his part with the continuing success of this school.

Michael Buck has worked at Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form for over 25 years and has seen lots of positive changes that have made the school what it is today. As Facilities Manager, he has been involved in a building programme to improve the school facilities, which includes the development of the Science Excellence Centre, All Weather Pitch, Performing Arts Centre of Excellence, Business Excellence Centre, Information Technology and Computing Excellence Centre and of late the Child Health and Social Care Excellence Centre. His role as Governor has allowed him the opportunity to be involved with the education and wellbeing of students and staff.

Penny Bignell is a qualified teacher and joined as Principal at Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form in April 2020. This follows 9 years as a Head Teacher and Executive Head Teacher in Norfolk Schools and Trusts. This included headship of a school in challenging circumstances where significant improvements were made. Penny is committed to ongoing school improvement and developing staff. Penny has completed a MA in education leadership NPQH and recently completed NPQEL.

Fred Corbett has been a Governor for over 20 years and at Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form since September 2012. He has over 50 years experience in education as a teacher, lecturer in higher education, Ofsted Inspector, Education Adviser and Deputy Director of Children’s Services until 2012. Fred is an adviser to the Catholic Diocesan Education Board, Member of the St John's and Our Lady of Walsingham Multi Academy Trusts and Chairs the Diocese of Norwich St. Benet's Multi Academy Trust. His three children were educated at Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form and are employed in public services or large national charities. Fred’s interests include school improvement, mathematics and environmental education. He is a Trustee of The Norfolk and Norwich Festival and keen on promoting the Arts for young people. He is an enthusiastic family and local historian and is currently undertaking research for a PhD in History at the University of East Anglia. He gains stress and great joy as a Norwich City season ticket holder.

Michael Daniels is now in his second term as a Governor at Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form. Michael’s career was spent in academic biological research and focussed mainly on plant and microbial interactions. For most of the time, he was based at the John Innes Centre in Norwich and he was the first Director of The Sainsbury Laboratory. He enjoys the chance of contributing to the governance of an outstanding school and hopes that his long experience of Science, including advanced undergraduate and postgraduate training, will enable him to contribute helpful perspectives on the school’s activities.

Ben Gardner was appointed as a Governor in May 2020. Ben is a Barrister, specialising in Commercial Law, working mainly from home but with a London-based practice. He studied at Cambridge and Harvard Universities and is actively involved in recruitment and training within his Barristers' Chambers. He has a keen interest in education, having worked for several years in a language school, and looks forward to contributing to Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form and the local community in his role as a Governor. He lives in Norwich with his husband and two retired greyhounds.

Michael Garratt currently serves on the Staff and Student Disciplinary Panels. He was Headteacher in the Thorpe St Andrew area for over 20 years, now retired. He was a trained and practising Citizens' Advice Adviser for 10 years. He is proud to have had a long and positive association with Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form and Primary Partnership Schools since 1981 through both former and current students and staff. His interests include; walking, education, grandchildren, reading, friends and family.

Kerry Giles has been a Governor at Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form since 2003. She is mother of four young adults who were all educated at Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form; three of whom went on to University. Kerry lived in Thorpe St Andrew for more than 30 years and through her voluntary work she has a good knowledge of, and keen interest in, the local community. Kerry enjoys many ways of relaxing but her main interest is in people, of all ages; both spending time with them and working alongside them. Her main role at home, in the community and at work is to give encouragement and support to help others in all they do.

Dawn Hatton has been a Governor since July 2012. Both sons successfully progressed through the school and Sixth Form and enjoyed life as a University students. Her eldest son is now working as a teacher overseas. Dawn became a Governor to help and support the school, staff, students and local community – to be actively involved with the school ethos “Success for All.” Dawn is a freelance Cookery Writer and Food Stylist. She enjoys reading, music and the arts and can be often found helping at local festivals such as the Norfolk and Norwich Festival, Norwich Science Festival and Norwich Film Festival.

Geoff Lawton has been a Governor since September 2011. He is a retired pastor of Norwich Vineyard which is now part of Gateway Vineyard, Norwich. He has an educational background. He was a member of staff for a short time at the then Thorpe Secondary Modern School and has lived in Thorpe St Andrew since 1992. He leads the Chaplaincy Team in school and conducts assemblies throughout the school and in all but one of the Educational Partnership schools which includes some Trust schools. Geoff is married to Annie and they have four children (all educated at Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form) and twelve grandchildren. He is involved with the events team for the Thorpe St Andrew Town Council. His interests include cinema, travel to sunny places, walking, a bit of gardening, a good book and keeping up stress levels by being in the Lower Barclay watching Norwich City.

Martin Leist has been a Governor at the school since 2005. He was previously also a Governor at Hillside Avenue Primary and Nursery School. With his wife, daughter and himself all having attended Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form, he is very keen to see the school continue to provide an excellent education for students of all capabilities. Having graduated from Brunel University in Computer Science, he has worked in Information Technology (IT) for his entire career, with over twenty years spent working in various IT management roles for Norfolk County Council, including Web Development, IT Security and Data Compliance.

Irma Rekic is a Geography BSc graduate from Lancaster University and completed her PGCE at the University of East Anglia. For the past six years she has been working with key examination groups including AS Level. Irma has also been a Form Tutor for the past four years. Irma led the development of the school allotment programme with the Papillion Charity working with a range of school and community members. Irma believes strongly in the importance of community ties and creating a strong foundation for students in the school.

James Stewart is the local Rector in Thorpe St Andrew and is delighted to be involved with Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form on the Local Governing Board and through the Chaplaincy Team. James grew up in Thorpe and was a Norwich Cathedral Chorister. He originally qualified and practised as a Family Lawyer in the west of county but trained for the ordained ministry 10 years ago at Cambridge and Yale Divinity School and, after other posts, came to Thorpe in 2016. James works closely with all aspects of the community in Thorpe St Andrew and hopes to contribute some of that local knowledge to the school, with the hope that pupils and staff in their work and study may experience joy each and every day.

Linda Steynor’s association with the school spans many years, initially through her roles within the Local Authority, then as Governor. She originally taught English and Modern Languages, was an Ofsted Inspector, and in retirement completed a doctorate on the use of metaphor in Ancient Egyptian poetry. Linda is a Governor because she wants to be part of the development of this outstanding school. She brings the skills and insights gained during her career in education and wider public service to support the school’s leadership. Linda is also Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Egypt Exploration Society. For relaxation she enjoys music and the arts, and travel.

Neil Tiddy has worked at Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form since 2017 as the Curriculum Leader for IT and Computing. Neil is leading the new T Level Qualification - Digital Production, Design and Development. Before coming to Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form, Neil had worked in two other Norfolk High Schools. Neil became a Staff Governor so he could help play his part with the continuing success of the school.

Jenny Wood has moved to Norfolk after being an Assistant Headteacher of a large London secondary school for 14 years and a Governor at a primary school. She is committed to a long relationship with Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form as the eldest of her four children has started at the school. She has a life-long passion for ensuring that young people have an excellent education that shows them the possibilities and then allows them to reach their goals, achieving ‘success for all’.
