Information for Students and Parents
General GCSE and GCE (A Level) timetables will be posted on the Examinations Notice Board in the Sixth Form Learning Resource Centre and on the Examinations Notice Board on the South Site.
Detailed information regarding specific subjects and tiers to be taken will be circulated to students in January. These will need to be checked carefully, signed and returned to the Examinations Office to ensure the correct entries are made to the Examination Boards. Notices to Candidates from the Examination Boards are available on the school website under Examinations / JCQ Rules and Regulations detailing regulations, but in brief they are as follows:
Mobile phones or any potential technological / web enabled sources of information such as iPods, mobile phones, MP3/4 players, smartwatches or wrist watches which have a data storage device are not permitted in the examination halls and must be switched off and left in the dining halls – students risk disqualification.
Once a student enters the Examination Hall there must be no communication with other students at all.
Students must provide all their own equipment for example, black pens, pencils, a ruler, calculator, eraser, compass, protractor and coloured pens, these must be in a clear pencil case or plastic bag. Calculator lids must be left outside the examination hall. The school is unable to provide equipment for examinations and therefore students must bring this with them. Students may not use correcting fluid, highlighters or gel pens.
A small water bottle, with labels removed, is allowed in examination hall (no juice/squash). Food is not allowed in examination halls.
Examination lists / registers are displayed in the north site dining hall and south site quadrant one week prior to the examination. Students MUST check these lists to ensure they know which hall to go to for each of their examinations (names are displayed in candidate number order).
Examinations for different subjects take place throughout the year in January, February/March and May/June and July (including mocks and end of year examinations).
Students do not have to attend morning registration. These examinations will start promptly at 8.30 am and 1.45 pm. Students should arrive 10 minutes before the start time of an examination at the appropriate hall. However, there are booster sessions arranged prior to most examinations taking place. Students should check with their teacher which examinations have booster sessions and where they will be taking place.
Students will have to remain in the Examination Hall until the end of an examination. This may be after the end of the school day and alternative arrangements may be needed to be made for students to get home.
