What is Debating?

Debating is an essential life skill and a fantastic aid to developing soft skills such as critical thinking, teamwork and leadership.  The emphasis is on ability to marshal thoughts, present them cogently and clearly, and to argue civilly but persuasively.

Why Complete Debating?

If you are interested in current issues and how best to approach this issues in a public forum this is the course for you.  Debating helps build personal public speaking and listening skills as well as analytical thinking.  Those students thinking of undertaking a career in the armed forces, journalism, media, management, law or teaching would find this a useful enrichment course.

How does the programme progress my studies?

Debating has personal and career benefits for students.  It helps build confidence, analytical thinking, and knowledge of current affairs. It is particularly useful to those students looking to apply to university as this programme offers UCAS points.  The points available are as follows:

Distinction – 12 points

Merit 8 – points

Pass – 4 points
