Sociology

Curriculum Intent Statement:

  • To provide students with key sociological knowledge of key vocabulary, concepts and theories, which they can apply to their study of Sociology, but also their every-day and future professional lives.

  • To explore the diversity that exists within society, and the impact this diversity can have on, for example, life chances. Also to explore the different sociological ways of explaining our society functions, who it benefits, and whether it could be changed for the better.

  • To equip students with the ability to critically analyse sociological perspectives, through consideration of evidence and logically-structured arguments.

  • Through all of the above, to facilitate a passion for Sociology and an inclination to make the world a better place.
