Our Approach

At Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form, we recognise that each day we are entrusted with the most precious members of your families. There is nothing more important to us than the physical and emotional health and wellbeing of our students and staff alike. As such we have worked hard to create and maintain a climate in which staff, students, parents and Governors feel able to articulate concerns, safe in the knowledge that effective action will be taken as appropriate.

Our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy apply to all adults working in or on behalf of our School. We expect everyone working in, for or visiting our School to share responsibility for keeping children safe from harm and abuse and report any concerns either via CPOMS (school staff) or directly to one of our DSLs (visitors and contractors) via the extension numbers below.

Together we must ensure that all children, their families and our staff, feel safe, valued and cared for at all times and are nurtured to thrive and achieve to be the best they can be.

E-Safety

Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form takes the E-Safety of our students very seriously. Throughout the curriculum we provide activities and opportunities for students to develop the skills they need to identify risks and stay safe. Teaching students about how to stay safe and behave online, including identifying risks and how and when to seek support is crucial.

Report Remove Tool for naked images and videos (IWF)

The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) has created the world’s first tool to help children and young people get naked images of themselves removed from the internet.

The Report Remove Tool can be accessed through the Childline website. IWF analysts will then review the content and create a unique digital fingerprint known as a hash, before sharing it with tech companies to help prevent it from being uploaded and shared.

Statement of Intent – Anti-bullying

Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form believes that all students are entitled to learn in a safe and supportive environment; this means being free from all forms of bullying behaviour.  All staff, parents and students work together to prevent and reduce any instances of bullying at the school. There is a zero-tolerance policy for bullying at the school. Proactive strategies such as learning about tolerance and difference as part of the school’s curriculum are also important as these aim to promote our inclusive, tolerant and supportive ethos.

Our Anti-bullying Policy outlines how instances of bullying are dealt with, including the procedures to prevent occurrences of bullying.  The Education and Inspections Act 2006 outlines several legal obligations regarding the school’s response to bullying. Under section 89, schools must have measures in place to encourage good behaviour and prevent all forms of bullying amongst pupils. These measures are part of the school’s Behaviour and Attitude for Excellence Policy, which is communicated to all pupils, school staff and parents.

Anti-bullying – Phone Smart

PhoneSmart has been created for children, age 10-13, who have just received their first smartphone.

It’s also a tool for parents and carers to help gauge their child’s readiness for the responsibilities of smartphone ownership, as well as helping to start the bigger conversations about the risks they might face online.
