Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form is a large comprehensive school (1,911 students) which is part of The Yare Education Trust. Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form was rated Outstanding by Ofsted in March 2014 and won the “BTEC School of the Year” Award in 2013.
Our Sixth Form operates an open access policy where each individual can find a pathway which suits their needs and reflects our moto “Success for All”.
We have 220 Year 12 students and 190 Year 13 students on roll this academic year. On offer is a wide range of Level 3 academic subjects as well as Technical Levels, General Applied subjects and T Levels. https://thorpestandrewschool.org.uk/sixth-form/courses- on-offer/
The majority of Year 12 students study three A Levels, whilst 20% of the cohort commence with four A Levels in Year 12, dropping to three subjects in Year 13.
Following the A Level reform, we only enter students at the end of Year 12 for the public examinations if:
- it is the subject they will drop at the end of Year 12
- they are unsure of which subject to drop at the end of Year 12.
When Year 12 students are not taking a public examination at the end of the year, they will sit an “End of Year Examination” in July of Year 12 to ensure good progression.
Our curriculum also offers a wide range of enrichment courses. Students must carry out one enrichment course in Year 12 only.
