“Where Do You Want To Go?”
Year 10 have been attending two workshops in the last two weeks of term, aimed at kick-starting their Career Plans. We were joined by Laura Moore, from Lovewell Blake, and by Noel Howes, who is a Business Manager at Cooper Mini. It was particularly good to welcome Noel, as he was a student at Thorpe St Andrew School “back in the day”!
Laura and Noel had come to share with our students some of the things that employers are looking for in candidates for apprenticeships and employment. They shared their own experiences of education and training, and emphasised the importance of perseverance and hard work.
In between the two workshops, the students have been challenged to do some research into their own “Next Steps”, using www.helpyouchoose.org and www.icanbea.org.uk to begin their exploration of different career and sixth form opportunities once they move into their Post-16 education or training.
The students will be using the messages from these workshops in their PSHEE lessons in September, as we work towards the application deadlines for Sixth Form, College and Apprenticeships. We will be offering CV and Personal Statement workshops, a Careers Fair, Work Experience opportunities and encounters with employers from key industries in Norfolk, as we look to provide our students with “The Edge” in their applications over the next few months.
